Bunzl supplies a broad range of internationally and responsibly sourced non-food products to a variety of market sectors in more than 30 countries.

We are looking for an experienced

Head of HR Europe
In this role you will be part of the Global HR team and report into the Head of HR UKI/Europe. You will collaborate with the European Nisbets Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to support the ongoing development and implementation of the strategic plan for Europe. This encompasses all aspects of the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and employee relations to performance management, wellbeing, equality, diversity, and inclusion, as well as employee communications. Additionally, you will provide coaching to managers and supervisors on people management practices across a regional and hybrid workforce. You will work closely with the Head of HR for ANZ and the Group Talent Development Director to drive global HR initiatives.

Your responsibilities:

  • Work with the European Nisbets Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement the regional strategic plan aligning the HR priorities with the business plan priorities and incorporating Group led strategies, where appropriate.   
  • Lead the HR team across the region to deliver a high standard of HR support efficiently, consistently and ensuring legal compliance by country.  Manage, lead, coach and develop the HR team for high performance.  Act as a role model for Nisbets’ leadership behaviours and values. 
  • Partner with the SLT and Country/Departmental Heads on key HR decisions and support improved business performance by effective organisation design, technology and process improvements, and headcount management.   
  • Evaluate the HR technology landscape and identify opportunities for automation and process improvement. Lead the implementation of the new HR system (Ceridian Dayforce) for EU.
  • Lead the implementation of organisational change, as required, to deliver the business plans and objectives.   
  • Educate managers and supervisors, to ensure that HR policies and practices are accessible, legally compliant, understood by employees and managers alike, and adopted consistently throughout the region, subject to local labour laws.   
  • Implement the performance review process, including pay for performance to improve business performance, employee development and engagement. 
  • Develop an HR communication plan to keep the Works Council and employees informed about HR initiatives, policies, and changes.  Manage internal employee communications, maintaining the Nisbets cultural voice and co-ordinate with the Nisbets’ communities to support employee involvement. 
  • Enable a resilient and healthy working environment through the development and deployment of an employee well-being strategy. 
  • Lead the resource planning process and oversee recruitment for the region. Use social media to positively impact the employer brand.  
  • Implement HR analytics to track and measure key HR metrics.  Advise on HR trends, recommending actions to drive employee engagement and mitigate any risks.  
  • Collaborate with HR colleagues in other regions to help develop and implement Group wide initiatives and lead or participate in HR related projects when a consistent approach is required.   

Your profile:
An Head of HR Europe should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in HR or a related field, with experience in international HR roles. Your role is a blend of operational and strategic HR.  Knowledge of local labour laws and being multi-lingual (Native Dutch and proficient English) is essential. Strong leadership, communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to think strategically and use technological tools.

What are the key technical capabilities for the role? 

  • HR Generalist – technically sound and experienced across Recruitment, Employee Relations, Reward, Organisation Development and Learning and Development  
  • Strategic Business Partnering – support diverse internal customers to interpret business needs and define innovative and cost-effective solutions at scale  
  • Strategic Planning – develop long range people strategies and drive implementation through a highly capable matrixed functional team  
  • Relationship Management – Build effective strategic partnerships outside the organisation to drive innovation and world class practices within Nisbets. Network effectively internally and have a positive influence within the Group
